Pros

- taught me what I don't want out of a career - the office space was kinda nice

Cons

- strict management (at least in the LA office) — have to ask to go to the bathroom, yelled at when ~2 minutes late, discouraged from socializing, etc. - largely geared towards younger interns/people who don't know what a healthy workplace looks like - only a few hours of work to do each day, but expected to "be productive" the whole time - interns get very little actual responsibility, and no say in any decisions made or deliverables that go out - as a current career professional who has worked at prominent DC organizations, I had 7 internships during college and all were better than this one ... by a lot unfortunately - (will admit that I'm not sure if this is a larger problem across all DF offices or just this one — or an issue with just the management I had)

Pros

- Staff was friendly and welcoming, the people that I got a chance to work with and learn from were the highlight of my experience - A chance to learn about the government in a way that you can't in a classroom - Interact directly with constituents on a daily basis

Cons

- Being unpaid is a con, but it really is valuable experience for any field that you decide to go into in the future - As an intern I only worked 2 or 3 days a week. I would have loved the opportunity to be in the office more to gain even more experience, but I understand the management doesn't want to overwork students that they aren't even paying
