Pros
As a subsidiary company founded and owned by Samsung electronics, SEMES awards employers with relatively lucrative pay in Korean Standard. The management seems to try hard, so the company morphs into a global company. If you work hard, the advancement chance is high. There are not many mandatory drinking (compared with other Korean companies), and the ratio of male to female employer is improving.
Cons
The company is fine one, but still it is a Korean company. Simply there are heavy pressure on workload. The official working hour is 8am to 5pm, but many employers work till 9pm. Although they claim it is voluntary, the culture force it to be voluntary. Besides, at least half of employers come to work on Saturday and even on Sunday. Chances are, If you don't work on these weekend, the coworkers will not include you within the circle. You will be likely isolated from the others. The top managements change every 2 or 3 years, and he ( or she) is a worker from Samsung electronics. The workload is heavy. My impressions was that they seem to hire around 5 or 6 people for the job of 10. The worse part; the employers' age is important. If you become 45 and fails to advance to upper management, it is likely that you will get pressured to leave the company. The worst part; this is not company specific, but applies to all Korean company.(may be there are some exceptions) I hated the work enviroment, but realized that it is relatively better one in Korea. So not many foreign employers can survive the workload. The main foreign workers are from Russian (or Former Soviet Union).
