Pros
As an independent contractor, I can work my own hours (I have children), and on my terms (I live and work remotely). It is a great way to get the flexibility and customization needed for work-life balance as a remote working primary care taker.
Cons
Because I"m self employed, I have to stay on top of ensuring fair pay, including compensating for the fact that I have no built-in benefits that an employee has.
