Pros
Gives you an unrivaled paid experience in a clinically relevant environment. You work directly with doctors, PAs, CRNPs, and residents depending on your site and get to see the entire medical decision making process from beginning to end. You see so much pathology while working and get a huge headstart learning about how to diagnosis a patient and how to treat them.
Cons
Does not compensate well at all for the work. At my site, a regular scribe starts at $8/hr, and after 3 months, gets a raise to $10/hr. Management is also not always easy to deal with, especially if you are a chief scribe trying to access upper levels of management for help at your site. Can be extremely frustrating at times trying to get things changed or obtain information.
