Pros

I took a role at Schellman after having spent many years in other industries. What drew me to the company, which has been reinforced tenfold since joining, was the culture. I love that I work with and for people who truly believe people come first and if you take care of people, people take care of each other and our customers. The benefits are far better than I have ever had anywhere else: outstanding medical benefits with the employee share being much lower than every company I've worked for, incredible PTO, company wide holiday weeks, summer hours, no meeting Friday afternoons and many more. I think it's amazing I feel I can do my best work every day and am supported by my peers, my team and frankly everyone I've come into contact with at Schellman. The people here make the company great. It took about a month for me to realize I wasn't just told things that sounded great so I'd take the job...they almost undersold it compared to what it's really like. I love it here...I can't imagine working anywhere else. I think as the company grows, there will be many opportunities for people to grow into.

Cons

The hardest part for any company of our size is change. We're going through a period of sustained growth but are preparing to grow at a level that requires change not everyone is comfortable with. I've been at enough companies in this position to know this is just how it is when you're preparing to scale so while a "con", there's a "pro" hidden inside this con. If it were utopia we would be able to grow without having to make changes that allow us to scale but that's not reality. I look forward to the day when the "growing pains" are behind us but I have faith in the leadership team. I've been through this before so I know it's not easy to go through this stage of evolution.

Pros

Management frequently improves benefits. Management really knows the business well. The company has historically been well insulated from economic downturns. So many opportunities to stand out and make a name for yourself

Cons

Data driven decisions still a work in progress. Long term vision is likely 1 ish year.

Pros

The people. Peers are great to work with and very supportive. Some of the leaders in the teams are as well. Perks were GREAT but have slowly been taken away or the costs went up.

Cons

Where do I begin? Wholesale executive turnover. Technology projects that we're supposed to say are awesome but aren't really that great. They take up more time to figure out than they're worth and we know those are meant to take our jobs. AI, offshore, temp labor. No thanks. It was a place I loved working at but has slowly just become a job that makes me feel like I should be watching for somewhere else to go. Just in case. The culture has changed quite a bit too. It used to feel like a place where we all wanted to work together but that's slowly fading.
