Pros

-Was able to work from home in between client trips -Huge variety of work kept things interesting; pace if learning was intense and rewarding -Access and exposure to thought leaders and senior executives was greater than previous roles

Cons

-Work is relentless and it interferes with everything. Partners expect the client work to come first. Work / life balance is impossible. They like to preach "work / life intersection" but that's just code words for "you'll likely be working all the time". Join SBI if you want to view your family's experiences over Facebook because you won't be there most of the time. -Benefits are awful. SBI provides very basic options and very little to offset the out of pocket cost. There is no 401(k) match, no equity purchase plan, very little monthly reimbursement for office expenses, etc. This would all be fine if the monthly salary offset these negatives, but SBI likes to hire people for as little as they can get away with vs. providing a generous salary for people to pay for the missing benefits without losing income when they join. -Toxic culture. Most people just keep their heads down and try to do the best that they can while suffering through constant "constructive criticism", unrealistic expectations, and heinously impossible deadlines. If you dare to mention anything critical to a Partner, it will be turned against you - what could you have done differently, how could you have anticipated that, etc. The Partners are above reproach and everyone knows it. They can do no wrong, it's always someone else's fault. Everyone quickly learns to grin and bear it vs. offering authentic feedback to management. -Boy's club. All of the Partners, Principals, VPs, and Engagement Managers are men. That should tell you all that you need to know. Banter is like a locker room or submarine. Comments are crass, swearing is the norm, co-workers and leaders constantly make sexual inuendos to one another about people inside the firm or clients. Women in the firm are referred to as "girls" all of the time.

Pros

The work is very interesting and challenging, and the team is extremely supportive of individual growth. Everyone gets along with each other and tries to help one another.

Cons

It can feel a little isolating if you aren't traveling with your team. The company is trying to do more in-person team building events this year which helps. Some people get discouraged after 1 or 2 tough projects, but that is consulting.
