Pros

There are great opportunities within oil & gas to get a varied amount of work, go offshore and be responsible for the installation of multi-billion pound assets. Within Saipem, there are small benefits - a little bit of flexible working is allowed, gym membership is subsidised |(up to £20 a month), membership with 2 institutions is reimbursed.

Cons

The method of succeeding in this company is not on your work merits but who you liaise with and win over. There have been incidences of colleagues requesting a pay rise and getting a substantial amount (without proving workload/responsibility) and other cases where colleagues have attempted to ask for a pay rise and been given a warning. In my opinion this is completely contradictory.

Pros

Great responsibility for offshore operations and quay-side mobilizations. Less technical role (no direct engineering performed), but more so, practical experience-driven when executing onsite.

Cons

Lots of reading and writing (Purchase Requests>Purchase Orders>Final contracts). Bureaucratic procurement (SAP and Word/Excel heavy) and poor interdepartmental follow-up: you have to do the follow-up when the assigned project inspector and expeditor (POSE) don't follow up on your PO. High workload.
