Pros

-The school site (so get hired directly by the school site and get a higher wage, benefits, better support, etc).

Cons

-Disorganized with terrible communication. It would take months to get a simple form filled out. -Poor leadership (supervisor quit mid-year with little to no explanation, and after that I did not have anyone to report officially or unofficially report to). -Felt very much like a cog that they hired (through AmeriCorps) simply so that they could receive the grant money and say they provided services to 'X population.' -Lack of self-awareness amongst management. -Confused and poorly executed mission, seemed to chase grant money and duplicate services with little strategy as to best serve their clients. -A lot of the managers have been there for a long time, but that seems to be more because of complacency/not having an overly difficult job vs. loving the organization. -If you serve as an AmeriCorps here, you are on your own. Little help or feedback unless you are perceived as doing something negative. It will be what you make of it, but you will receive no support to make it a fulfilling year for you. I think it's telling that no one chose to do a second year or tried to get hired on after the first year, which is not true for other AmeriCorps members I know.

Pros

kids are a delight to work with

Cons

HR is run by one person and if she isn't there, you will not get a response after an incident. i was fired for a minor infraction after no formal warnings or reprimands and had to wait five days to learn the status of my job and what i had done wrong. finally after a 7 minute zoom call i was fired and given no chance to defend myself or explain what happened. they took one person's testimony and got rid of me.
