Pros

You can have a job for the rest of your life. The pay is generally fair market. The culture is difficult for a lot of people to get used to. Most people have worked there for >10 yrs and it is the one and only job most employees there have ever had. I suppose this is a con as well because folks are set in their ways. Great work/life balance (for most positions) and flexibility for mid level/experienced/senior positions. Very concerned about customer service even though it is an oligopoly.

Cons

Poor performers (dead wood) are rewarded with the same raise as good performers. SRP rarely fires people. Most people have been there >10 yrs and it is the one and only job most employees have ever had - hired right out of HS or college and never leave. Not for profit so "it gets done when it gets done, it takes as long as it takes, and this is how we've always done it". New experienced hires will pull their hair out trying to change the culture. Very risk averse and slow to adopt new ideas or technologies.

Pros

SRP gave me stability, experience, and the chance to build real skills. I had positive experiences there, and I’m grateful for parts of it. But I’m also realizing that the environment doesn’t always operate from a positive or growth-minded place, and I have to be honest about what that has cost me

Cons

The con is not that SRP is a bad place. The con is that it can give you stability and experience, but not always a clear or fair feeling of movement. You can give a lot, build a lot, and still feel like you’re waiting for someone to finally see it
