Pros
The best work of your life is also the most demanding of your life. We get to work on society's toughest challenges. The people we serve, the founders that go through SOSV programs and SOSV, are building some of the most consequential startups in climate change, the future of food, new types of therapeutics to cure many different diseases, etc. So there is a continuous stream of new founders, leaders in their field, that you get to interact with and serve on their journey. Entrepreneurship is a blood sport. The founders are constantly battling in the arena and ultimately the majority of them are not going to change the world (in that particular startup, anyway). They leave a piece of themselves out on the field. We get to be the coaches and confidants that help them produce their best work.
Cons
There is an endless stream of work to be done. Unless you find a purpose and meaning to the work, you will be overloaded. The people who thrive here the best are those that stay the longest, and don't burn out from the work because they love the people and the work. This is early stage venture capital, so while the short-term pay is good compared to regular jobs in society, there are much higher paying jobs on Wall Street or in late stage venture capital, hedge funds, and sometimes even corporate venture capital. Note that long-term comp is best in early stage VC, which is why so many of the people who work at SOSV are experienced people who have been here for long times (5+ years on average, with lots of people here 8+ years).
