Pros

Awesome work environment, as well as great mentorship from the full-time employees. I felt like I was part of a team that were all on the same page on a day-to-day basis. Everyone I worked with helped me whenever I needed help. I definitely recommend this internship program if you want to know what its like to work at a startup or a small business. Aside from the people and work environment, it is also located only a block away from the Irving Park Metra Station and less than a block away from the CTA Train station which I believe to be the blue line.

Cons

The only downside to this entire internship was that for starting first-time interns there is no pay.

Pros

Resume Experience building opportunity, with renders to show for within your portfolio. Young-spirited group of employees with a wealth of knowledge. Occasional catered lunch paid for by owners.

Cons

Most of the employees were over-worked, stressed out from tight deadlines, and not appreciated by a management team that would routinely side with clients over their own staff. Minimal training - You are thrown directly into the fire, and expected to hit the ground running with their numerous in-house add-ons to the software. During my first week with the company, I had a female co-worker refer to me as an idiot within an ear-shot of me to her fellow colleague because I hadn't finished a task in the manner which she would've done it, despite ending at identical results. Though the staff members are individually friendly - it felt impossible to break through socially. They have their social clicks and inside jokes that leave you feeling left out from group activities, or even lunch period gatherings. Location is ideal for people with Train access, or local city residents - It's otherwise a complete pain to commute to.

Thank You for your feedback, and we are sorry that your time at the studio wasn't what you expected. A couple of things to clarify: 1. We do not allow the use of any images produced at the studio to be used in personal portfolios as they may have underlying non-disclosures with our clients associated with them and we do require all employees to sign a non-disclosure before working with us which may have legal ramifications if they are not adhered to. Thus, we don't want anyone applying to think that they would be allowed to use images produced at the studio to build their personal portfolios. 2. Breaking through socially at a small firm is difficult and it can be even more challenging when we believe in inclusiveness and diversity which means that we hire for merit and not just everyone that will fit. We appreciate your suggestion for having team buildings which we do twice a year as a company. This year we went to the Planetarium as a group and in other years we have had trips to Book of Mormon or eating at Maple and Ash etc.. 3. Compared to downtown, our site location was picked because we are right next to I90/I94 as well as have access to train and bus. Parking is first come first serve in our parking lot and I have never had a problem finding parking in the neighborhood (as executives we follow the first come first serve rule as well). We think Old Irving Park is a great location and with new neighbors like Lyft we think it is a vibrant and up and coming part of Chicago. 4. Lastly, at the end of each year we pull compensation data using the help of our HR company to ensure our compensation and benefits are competitive and inline to attract and retain talent. We understand there will always be companies that pay more and companies that pay less than us but we always feel we are being fair for what we can afford to pay. Glassdoor shows you are a previous employee (we have not had anyone leave for awhile) so i'm sorry you've been hanging on to these emotions for as long as you have but wish you the best of luck in your upcoming adventures.
