Pros
- You'll meet some interesting people at the company. - You will learn a lot, however long you last at the company. Mainly good tips on what not to do if you ever get into management.
Cons
- Abysmal and completely counter-productive management. The old saying that "people leave managers, not jobs" describes the situation perfectly. Calling them management is almost a compliment. - The horrendous management leads to an absurdly high turnover rate. The employees that are left are completely overworked and then blamed when both their events and the ones they are looking after do badly. - Employees are treated like potential criminals. Emails, web activity and your personal social media accounts will all be looked at by management. You would think they would have better things to do, but apparently not. - Image is a massive concern for management (10 years too late?), a recent effort to get staff to write about positive experiences about the company has been initiated in a pitiful effort to give the company some good PR. A fun thing to do is to watch the staff profiles on the website and see how quickly they disappear and get replaced. Oh, and management writing 5* reviews on this website is fooling nobody (it would help if they cut out the grammatical mistakes -- that really gives you away!) - SMi has no neutral HR department where you can go to air grievances (about management for instance). I'm not sure one person can constitute a department, but either way it means there is a self-perpetuating negative cycle at this company where nothing ever changes. - Please do ask any recruiter about the turnover and culture at SMi if you think these reviews are exaggerating or just people who have been scorned by management. SMi is a joke in the industry and well known for its practices.
