Pros

Great company reputation. High quality corporate resources in many areas. Most employees are high performers and team players. There are really wonderful people at this company.

Cons

Company is struggling to adjust to the changed market. Most of its business processes are dependent on a much higher personnel count. Schlumberger is a results and metrics driven company that focuses on compliance to process not in interpersonal leadership. At the same time, Schlumberger has dramatically reduced its headcount in the past few years. The result is that the employees that remain with the company are doing the work that once belonged to three or four people and then are being told their performance is mediocre or poor because they are not delivering the same results. Managers in Schlumberger will claim that a strong leadership environment is a hallmark of the company. But what they mean by this is that are extremely detail oriented goal setters, that will ruthlessly adhere to those goals regardless of the circumstances - goals which are attached to your income and permanent HR recorded. As a result, the top managers in Schlumberger are coercive and short sighted who are reluctant to invest in people.

Pros

Good people at the local level. The work is engaging and challenging.

Cons

Too many to count. Career advancements are extremely limited. Pay raises are minimal and don't get close to keeping up with inflation even for top performers. At the corporate level they are using acquisitions to hide massive layoffs. They return billions in profit to investors consistently, but there is still a constant threat of layoffs and multiyear freezes on pay raises even with inflation and solid corporate profit.
