* Good range of projects, and possible to acquire knowledge and skills in wide areas of physics, chemistry, engineering
Cons
* It seems that lay-offs are more frequent occurrences as the whole oilfield business looks for efficiencies, and while previously the business would shield product development from the worst parts of the oil price cycles, this is no longer the case. Don't think that you will have a 30 year career in the oilfield business - that time has gone.
