The real problem is from the top management. They create a culture where politics becomes more important than doing the real work to push the business forward. Many times you will need to take the responsibility for the bad decisions made by upper leadership. Having life outside of work is very difficult, because last minute requests can come at any time, even on weekends. If your role is working directly with customers or partners, your personal reputation will also be affected, since it is often hard to keep the commitments.
