Pros
There are no pros. I don't remember applying for the job, but the email correspondence from the company indicates that they found me through Indeed. (I don't have my resume or information listed online or through job boards.) Should this be a red flag? Sure! But it's 2021, and there have been occasional bouts of scrambling as my clients go under in the pandemic, and I've done similar work before, so I was open-minded.
Cons
Everything. This company is a scam. I was hesitant since I have no record of contacting SFERIS. Apparently, it was posted as work on Indeed? (Is anything there legal?) The previous reviews are exactly how it played out for me, including the email they had me edit terminating a fellow editor and offering him the option to sell for them. This company "hires" people, takes over their eBay seller accounts and has them wire the money to them from their PayPal accounts. This is a huge violation of both comanys' terms of service, and I was uncomfortable with the work, so I became more rigid about my research. Sure enough, after five days (and banking an unpaid balance of $180) the company said they ran out of editing work but would offer me the opportunity to sell for them. I declined and haven't anything since. And I haven't been paid!
I think the editing work is a sham and this is a long con to get desperate people to work as "sellers" which is also probably a scam of another kind. (Emptying bank accounts through PayPal maybe?)
