Pros
• my colleagues are wonderful and believe in the mission of the university • my direct supervisor is awesome, treats people like human beings, and wants you to succeed and grow • working on a university campus is fulfilling
Cons
• new employee vacation leave is terrible (10 days/year for the first 3 years) • work/life balance is terrible - very family unfriendly; telecommuting is discouraged if not actually denied outright • salaries are low for the Bay Area's high cost of living • the most political higher ed institution I have ever worked in • ineffective, unqualified, dictatorial upper management
