Pros

• The culture is focused on continued learning and growth throughout your career • Many of the employees have a tenure of 10+ years • Everyone is self-motivated and likes to work together • Some amazing benefits and work-life balance • It is an employee-owned company, the longer you stay the more of the company shares you own

Cons

• The company suffers from being homogenous, very little diversity. Most employees are white males. • Many of the upper-level positions are filled by long-tenured developers who have moved into other roles. This is not necessarily bad, but it does create some strange dynamics as consultants sometimes. • Pay is not as competitive for the same job and title at other companies.

Pros

Great place to work. The leadership does care for their employees. The employees of the company are the reason why this organization is worth working for.

Cons

Title growth is slow. Sometimes resources to perform work can feel out of reach.

Pros

People tend to be nice and care about the work. Projects can be interesting.

Cons

Well below average pay for software. Mandatory in office 5 days a week. Constant turnover, the company seems to quite effectively make ambitious people leave. Company has been around over 30 years yet can't grow past 200 employees. For a company that's been through the tech boom to still be so small, you know it must be poorly managed. Was told to expect 10%-20% of compensation to be in ESOP shares, received 5% instead. Previous to this year, it was at or above 20% for 7 consecutive years. Now that there aren't many shares in circulation, newcomers will receive very few shares while pumping the bags of those who already have them (share price up 24% this year).

Thank you for sharing your feedback! We recognize that people define company success in different ways. We've taken an intentionally paced approach to growth for 38 years, prioritizing long-term sustainability over rapid growth. That's a choice we stand behind. On the ESOP, the mechanics and assumptions you shared don't accurately represent what our employees have or will receive, and we want to make sure that's clear. Employee ownership is one of the things that makes SEP different, and we want people to understand it well. Our annual ESOP meeting, open forums with the CEO, and quarterly financial updates exist for exactly that reason. If you have questions about your benefit, we'd love to talk to you directly.
