Pros
Interesting cases. Lots of power to serve the public and go after bad guys. Hard to say beyond that, it was just a job.
Cons
Your experience and level of autonomy depend entirely upon who is your immediate supervisor, and it is not possible to change supervisors if there is a problem. Also, the trial unit takes over your cases as soon as the matter enters litigation. You are then often treated like a glorified paralegal "because you know the facts the best." And all appeals are handled by the General Counsel's office in Washington DC. Finally, there are very few opportunities for advancement, because the supervisors rarely move on.
