Pros

You learn a lot about how the food service industry works. I was able to see a lot of innovative designs that I otherwise would have never known about. You also learn to really appreciate how expensive it is to be in the food service/hospitality business.

Cons

Was told there would be health benefits within a year of my starting and that turned out to be a lie. To this day there are still no health benefits. They have core values and "culture" but those are also lies. Communication is a core value but no one ever seems to do so within the office. There is always a "fire" to be put out due to lack of communication. Little to no praise is ever given to anyone outside of the design team, but when anything goes wrong they are quick to let you know you were in the wrong. Public shaming (roasting) is a thing at group meetings within the company. Belittling and down-playing your role is the standard MO. The "breakfast" they advertise consists of oreos, bananas and yogurt. Bringing issues or complaints about standards to upper management falls on deaf ears. The owner basically doesn't acknowledge the room is on fire and just stays typing away on his computer. Very high turnover rate. I watched 11 people go on and out the door at all positions in a bit over a year. They let quality employees leave and hope that the average Joe can come off the street and at least keep the ship floating even if its not moving. I've watched them hire people who didn't know computer basics be forced into a role and then left to sink with the expectation that they would just "get it".

Thank you for your review. I am glad you had the opportunity to see a lot of innovative design and to learn about the foodservice industry. We are pleased to offer a very competitive ancillary benefits package including dental and vision insurance, ST disability, LT disability, Life insurance, Legal assistance, and Teledoc. We don't offer health insurance at this time but we do have a health and wellness bonus (monthly stipend) given to all full-time employees to offset health insurance costs. Proof of insurance is required to receive this benefit. Our core values are very important to us. We use them during the interview and hiring process, during quarterly 360 peer reviews, for annual reviews, and they are the basis of how we operate daily. Communication is one of our core values and we are constantly discussing as a team how we can improve and maintain clear communication. We have a culture of accountability that also celebrates wins and rewards high-achieving employees. We want to fill each and every position with star employees. We listen and consider all employee feedback. All team members should feel empowered as they are given both freedom and responsibility. We understand this culture is not for everyone. We do offer a few job perks such as weekly breakfast, coffee, espresso, cappuccino, tea, spring water - all day, monthly catered lunch, weekly or bi-weekly catered lunch and learns. Our breakfast is occasionally catered but usually consists of yogurt and cut fruit, or a few kinds of fruits, and something like bagels, donuts, or other baked goods. I wouldn't tell anyone to work here for the breakfast, but it's a little perk that most employees enjoy. We understand that our jobs can be very stressful and we like to offer food as a way to get employees together, take a break, talk to one another, and just relax a bit. Clearly defined roles are very important to our organization. Our President focuses on Business Development and Sales, not drafting tasks. Drafters receive direction from and work directly with our Project Managers. Again, thank you for your review and best of luck to you in your future career.

Pros

I have had a great experience working at SCOPOS. The tight-knit and supportive team mentality is the backbone of the company's culture. As a small, family-owned business, the company encourages personal and professional growth through opportunities for advancement, as evidenced by my two promotions within five and a half years. The company's commitment to continuous improvement and innovation is appreciated. The company goes through the cycle of adopting new software and processes at least once a year. They also encourage anyone from each department to seek out the programs and technologies that will make their jobs better and/or easier. Those programs are almost always implemented. The company has been steadily growing through the years as the services they provide grow and departments expand. It's fun to see how all the different departments at SCOPOS interact and complement each other. There is a commercial kitchen attached to the main office space that hosts a lot of training and events. That means we get professionally prepared food for lunch! I also always admired that we would often meet new people who would come through that kitchen. The Principal has a growth mindset that motivates everyone within the company to strive for their best. I think that for me has been most important.

Cons

While the dynamic nature of the company can be seen as a strength, it may also pose challenges for those who struggle to adapt to frequent changes. Change will always happen there. I have seen the company go through many management styles, communication styles, and approaches to leadership. There have been instances where higher management could have addressed situations more effectively. The company has consistently demonstrated a willingness to learn and grow from such experiences. They are also always open to hearing from us about how to improve.

Pros

Nice holiday party at the end of the year for employees. Several lunch and learn opportunities which provide free lunches, as well as breakfast being provided on Tuesdays. Cool projects.

Cons

While I think this company has the potential to be great, there are several areas that need improvement. In my short time there I had seen several people come and go which was alarming. The workplace often felt very cliquey and I was always the outsider listening to people be two-faced. This just sets the foundation for a toxic workspace when you’re supposed to be a team. Management in certain departments needs a wake up call on how to properly treat people. The previous reviewer who said “I often left the day feeling inadequate or out-right stupid for not being able to read management's mind when a lack of clear direction or communication was used,” could not be more spot on. When work from home days were introduced to provide flexibility to employees it felt like I had to fight for the days that worked best for me making the flexibility of the gesture slim to none. Additionally, no matter how much effort I put into my tasks and how well I performed, it always felt like it was never enough. Even when praised for my work, I received below-average review scores with the explanation that “there’s always room for improvement” this approach just made me feel undervalued instead of saying “you’re doing great and I want you to be exceptional.” Positive reinforcement goes a long way. Towards the end the joy and excitement I initially felt for this job had disappeared due to these issues and more.
