Pros

The firm trip is a pretty great perk that you probably won't get anywhere else. (Annual vacation subsidized by the company.) They also offer perks like busy season dinners, a busy season ice cream cart and busy season snacks, and you can wear jeans to work. They also have weekly happy hours at the office, which is great if you don't have a ton of work to do and want to hang out at work after spending all week at work (which plenty of people did!) You also have the freedom to work rather independently, and there is a lot of flexibility, and a pretty casual atmosphere. For example, if you need to work from home one day because of a personal obligation, at the senior level you can pretty much just let your manager know (as opposed to having to put in a formal request). You can also generally come in late/early and leave late/early based on preference or need without any formal agreement. The people are also all pretty great, which is always important. All the partners are open. There is no "don't talk to the partners" atmosphere. The main office was redone relatively recently and it is very nice (beautiful actually). You don't get the feeling that the Company is "stingy", which is nice. Benefits are slightly above average. Vacation/PTO policy is top notch. Their Becker tuition agreement could be better. There is an ESOP and their 401(k) has a roth option. You get annual raises and an annual bonus (rather small). The amount of travel required depends on your client base, but generally isn't too bad. Staff and Seniors gain well-rounded experience in tax or audit areas. (Ex. you don't spend 3 months auditing cash.) They do top notch work.

Cons

Although there are no "required hours", and the hours generally required are significantly better than Big 4 hours, the amount of hours I needed to work to stay above water was too much. I was terribly stressed more often than not. If you tried to take a break after having a big deadline, you would then be behind for upcoming projects. There was no way to catch up. The senior is responsible for preliminary contact with the client, scheduling partner and manger reviews, scheduling and prepping for planning meetings, corresponding and communicating with the client (open items), delegating and teaching staff, reviewing staff work, completing their own work, drafting the financials and reports, making reviewer changes and clearing points (or telling staff to do so), issuing financials and reports, and administrative wrap up. It's a lot. Managers will sometimes say "let me know how I can help," but you can't rightly tell your manager "please do this, this, and this." Although there is generally no expectation to work weekends (for audit, tax is different), and you are never told you need to work crazy hours, managers and partners will often answer e-mails at all hours of the night. This does not give a great impression.
