Technically sound projects, but a toxic work culture and ineffective HR make it hard to stay - Senior Software Development Engineer 2 SBS Employee Review

Pros

Exposure to real-time, large-scale systems — especially in the banking domain. Hands-on experience with Spring Boot, microservices, cloud platforms like SBCP, and containerization via Kubernetes. Some teams offer autonomy and trust, especially when you're self-driven. Good place to enhance your backend engineering skillset if you're focused only on technical growth.

Cons

Internal conflicts between teams are frequent and rarely addressed properly. A clear lack of ownership and accountability across departments. HR is mostly unresponsive, especially when it comes to conflict resolution or employee well-being. Toxic politics in some teams go unchecked, creating a stressful environment for those who just want to focus on work. Recognition is inconsistent and often tied to visibility over actual contribution. Career growth is vague and depends heavily on internal lobbying rather than merit.

Pros

remote 3 days out of the week

Cons

Management doesn't train you. I was not even allowed the opportunity to figure it out either before they laid me off. The guy who was supposed to train me didn't, and threw me under the bus when my progress was evaluated. They want you to come on the team, already knowing everything.
