Pros

I have been working at Ryan for over 10 years and have seen many changes and policies come and go. The best change I have seen was the implementation of myRyan. The program allows employees a have true work-life balance. It holds each employee accountable for their career path and fosters the entrepreneurial spirit. Top management has taken steps and implemented programs to become more transparent and listens to their employees’ ideas and feedback.

Cons

It would be nice to have a more relaxed dress code when coming into the office. We hardly ever have clients or auditors in our office and it is possible to still look professional in jeans. It would also be nice if there was a formal program to learn about other tax practices. Similar to companies who offer rotation programs between different departments. Currently different tax teams only work together when there is a project need and monetary gain. It would be nice to learn about other tax practices for educational gain. The current team structure can sometimes hinder productivity. It seems larger teams do much better than smaller teams so perhaps combining or allowing smaller teams to work together to pool resources could accelerate projects. Compensation and benefits sometimes make it hard to attract and retain good employees. Perhaps evaluating those to make them more competitive would help.

Pros

Culture is great amongst principle and executive team members. The work is not difficult if you have prior experience in property tax. Benefits are good. Great promotion track if you are willing to play the politics.

Cons

Political environment. Senior Consultants do not mind throwing newer people under the bus for their mistakes. Boundaries are not respected. You are expected to know everything with no real formal training, they do provide some training for the first few weeks but then it drops off and everything needs to be self taught. Management has favorites and you will know instantly.
