Pros

The state benefits are the ONLY thing keeping staff chained to the job.

Cons

Micromanagement Toxic work environment Consistent pressure to re-evaluate your goals and pile on more work All campuses are suffering. There is no focus on you as an individual, only how you fit into their model of making money by driving in more students They can’t keep staff; retention is a disaster, and yet they refuse to look at the source of the issue, ask staff what they want and need, actually take the advice and shift the work structure. The campus buildings are crumbling desire what aesthetic changes they make for it to “get by”. It functions as a giant corporation rather than make you feel like a person. Everything is exhausting, overwhelming, hiring takes MONTHS, staff are left taking on the jobs of 2-3 other staff members with no compensation The pay is comparatively LOW, but the state benefits will keep people with health issues and children there despite the terrible work conditions. There are extremely few ways to move up and of the ones available, it’s all nepotism. Good hard working staff are not being recognized and rewarded. The expectation is to put students ahead of yourself time and time again, whether your job is student facing or not. Staff who have been there 20 years are waiting for retirement and across all campus locations, staff continue to see high turnover.

Pros

co-workers are super nice, friendly and collaborative. Good flexibility in work arrangements. My immediate boss is nice.

Cons

Morale is quite low, and turnover is high. We are losing good people and goals are not being met. Senior Leader tell us to do more with less, and do not want constructive feedback. They don't lead by example, taking elaborate trips instead of being present and supporting staff. Rules don't apply to them. So disappointing, not what you would expect from a public university.
