Pros

The university is broad in both resources and career opportunities. The vast array of research interests allows for unlimited possibilities for collaboration.

Cons

This may be the most bureaucratic institution in the universe. I am quite convinced that there are entire buildings full of people who's sole job description is to write and continually update forms to be filled out for every mundane task that occurs at the university. There also must be another building full of people who's job it is to create the forms that must be filled out in order to receive the other forms. It's a prime example of academic bloat- there are numerous and blatant examples of people doing jobs just because they need something to do in order to collect a paycheck. It's disheartening for those of us who must really on providing extramural research funding just to survive.

Pros

co-workers are super nice, friendly and collaborative. Good flexibility in work arrangements. My immediate boss is nice.

Cons

Morale is quite low, and turnover is high. We are losing good people and goals are not being met. Senior Leader tell us to do more with less, and do not want constructive feedback. They don't lead by example, taking elaborate trips instead of being present and supporting staff. Rules don't apply to them. So disappointing, not what you would expect from a public university.
