Good university for graduate study and research - Graduate Research Assistant Rutgers University Employee Review

Pros

I was lucky to work with a great professor and did my phd dissertation with him. Supported by the research assistantship, I was not required to work on other research projects but my thesis. The health insurance plan given for the graduate assistants was very good. The spouses and children were covered too. Parking is free for research assistants. You can take courses up to 6 credits in the summer for free, as a benefit for a 9 month RA.

Cons

The phone services were canceled, which was kind of inconvenient. Other than that, I enjoyed the graduate study there. The RAship is comparable to other universities nearby.

Pros

co-workers are super nice, friendly and collaborative. Good flexibility in work arrangements. My immediate boss is nice.

Cons

Morale is quite low, and turnover is high. We are losing good people and goals are not being met. Senior Leader tell us to do more with less, and do not want constructive feedback. They don't lead by example, taking elaborate trips instead of being present and supporting staff. Rules don't apply to them. So disappointing, not what you would expect from a public university.
