It's a good company to gain retail experience in, though it's not very rewarding in terms of compensation. - Merchandise Assistant Rustan's Employee Review

Pros

- Very good training ground especially for those who want to be brand manager, merchandising manager, product development manager. - You get to experience more on the business side of retail, as you are exposed to upper management/executives and how they work. - You gain mastery of the basic, yet crucial, merchandising parameters (open-to-buy, IMTC, sellthru/saleability, gross profit, sales forecasting, etc.)

Cons

- Very slow rate in terms of grade/level promotion for employees (3 years from Merchandise Assistant to Assistant Merch Mgr, then another 2 years from AMM to MM) - Unsatisfactory compensation plan - No health card - Very hesitant in taking on upgrades that may be beneficial to the current needs of the business
