Pros

good experience in econ and professional connections with intelligent people; good resume value, as company has a market presence; exposure to academic publications, news articles, and media sources that can be used for personal enrichment as well as in professional life; strengthens writing and analytical skills with possibility to use quantitative methods if so desired; flexibility in working hours

Cons

management was very hands-off and did not have time to comment on your work - you generally felt as though you were unsure whether you were doing what was expected; poor communication within the company between interns and analysts; hourly rate for interns average; little sense of completion or gratification for research, as you never got to present it to the client and did not see how it was useful for anything other than internal purposes

Pros

- Access to Nouriel "Dr. Doom" Roubini - Exposure to investment managers and government officials - Possibility of media appearances (TV, radio, print) - Strategists earn decent salary

Cons

- Overtime and weekend work is expected - You better not have a life outside of work. God forbid you have a baby! - Employees are continually replaced with cheap new graduates or outsourced to India - Economists double as web editors. You don't just do research; you update a website daily - Not a resume building experience if you want to stay in the financial industry - Your spine needs to be made of steel - the company cares little about ergonomics - Economists earn crap
