Pros

My first several years at Rothy’s were a great experience. The team environment was positive and encouraging, the work was challenging but engaging, and I truly felt I had the freedom to perform my job while continuing to learn. My managers were kind and supportive, and I gained a lot from their leadership. The company seemed to genuinely value work-life balance, which motivated me to work harder knowing I could also take time to recharge and be present with my family.

Cons

Unfortunately, the last few years felt very different. A shift in management changed the tone of our team, and myself and others began to feel micromanaged—our autonomy diminished, and the environment became more critical and less supportive. Work-life balance was no longer prioritized. Over time, I noticed a decline in my mental and physical health due to work-related stress, which led me to take a leave of absence. I had previously raised concerns multiple times with HR, but didn’t feel those conversations led to meaningful support. Upon returning, I was given my annual performance review just three days in with no warning prior to getting on the call. Receiving my annual performance review just three days after returning from a medical leave felt retaliatory and added to my stress. While I can’t speak to intent, the timing and lack of communication made it difficult to re-engage in a healthy way. Ultimately, I made the difficult decision to resign for the sake of my well-being. It was disappointing to end my 8.5-year tenure on such a note. I would caution others considering roles on the retail operations team to carefully assess the current leadership and culture.
