Pros

Positive relationships with most coworkers. Field aligns with personal interests and passions.

Cons

They don’t send home sick kids and don’t enforce their sick policy, which keeps the other kids and staff constantly sick. Mold in rooms and water dispensers along with lack of any deep cleaning. Inadequate leadership with very very little experience. Favoritism and unfulfilled promises. Environment gives off high school vibes. Leadership does not implement employee feedback or follow their own handbook. Inconsistent when people receive raises. Reward lazy people by giving them promotions instead of getting fired. Turn a blind eye when it comes to people who are their favorites. Keep you past your clock out time to clean for free. Overwork their best employees. The temperature in the building is always burning hot with some cold spots in rooms. Lots of ants, drain flies, and gnats. Long 4/4.5 hour sessions at a time with the same kid. Don’t appreciate employees until it’s too late and half of the staff already quit. “Secret” dual relationships between coworkers of different position status. Opened a new location without the required staffing. Gives you extra responsibilities without changing your job title to reflect it. Threaten people who call off when it isn't convenient for them with a "performance improvement plan meeting". Leadership openly gossip about RBTs where anyone can hear them.

Pros

There is a strong level of flexibility in scheduling, which makes it easier to maintain a healthy work–life balance. BCBAs are trusted to manage their caseloads and structure their days in a way that works best for their clients and themselves. There is meaningful freedom to design and implement individualized treatment plans without being restricted to overly rigid templates. Leadership values clinical judgment and allows room for creativity when developing interventions. Caseloads are manageable, and expectations are clear. Administrative support is available when needed, which helps reduce unnecessary stress and allows more focus on client care. Overall, the role offers a good balance of independence, flexibility, and support, making it a sustainable and rewarding place to practice as a BCBA.

Cons

Like any BCBA role, the work can be demanding. The field itself carries a high level of responsibility, including managing clinical decisions, supporting staff, and navigating complex family dynamics. These challenges are inherent to the profession and are not specific to Roots. That said, despite the natural demands of the field, I genuinely enjoy working here and feel supported in managing those challenges.
