Pros

You will get to see the reality of what it’s like to work in the industry full on. Nothing is hidden or overglamorized. You have to be on point and serious about your craft because you will be expected to be knowledgeable on different aspects of production. However, anything you do not know will be shown to you. Very few people in the industry are willing to be as transparent with interns as Romeo is, and for that I am grateful.

Cons

Make sure your schedule is flexible enough to accommodate the work you’ll be doing. Because I had a more rigid schedule I often had work to take with me to be able to meet deadlines that at times could be difficult but I’m the end it was still a great learning experience.

Pros

Working in the heart of the Garment District gave me an amazing opportunity to learn about the different sources for manufacturers, fabric, and notions. Also, the other interns and I were greatly supported by the brand manager, Angel Neal. However, I believe she may have left the brand by now.

Cons

Honestly, aside from work experience and having direct access to the Garment District, working as a design intern and as an intern in general for Romeo Hunte is anything but ideal. Throughout my time, I experienced and watched others experience being overworked, receiving no pay (or lunch/transportation stipend), a lack of appreciation for what was brought to the table, inconsistent communication, and frustrating design direction. Mr. Hunte would often make requests outside of work hours, as well as requests to pay with interns' personal money for errands and pickups. As of now, I know at least a few interns who have never been repaid, including me.
