Pros
Being at Rocketrip has really been an enjoyable experience for me since day 1. I should preface this by saying that my experience reflects what engineering is like at the company, and that I can’t fully speak for others in other capacities, such as Sales, Marketing, Product, etc, though I think there is a decent amount of overlap. The company does a great job of hiring really smart, productive, and likable people/characters that are enjoyable to be around. We’re given a lot of autonomy and flexibility and can work from home on our own accord. We have people that have moved across the country, some for just several months, and work remotely full time. Our performance is measured by our output and not hours logged on a timesheet. The unlimited vacation policy is legit and really nice. People regularly take off 2 weeks at a time, a couple I know would do up to a full month. The work-life balance overall is fantastic. For whatever whatever share of problems and challenges the company has, the one thing I can say we do get right is our engineering culture. We keep ourselves accountable with doing things the right way in terms of best and up-to-date practices (I’ve worked at a company where we didn’t have unit tests), judicious management of technical debt, and enabling our engineers by allowing them to take risks and initiative, and fail safely without being burned at the stake. Our engineers are also empowered to disagree with asks that may be out-of-scope or potentially disastrous (in our professional opinion) and we’re shielded well from overly aggressive or unreasonable demands from customers and other parts of the company.
Cons
We’re still trying to figure out product market fit and the company's growth is inconsistent. The pay is nice, and enough that the marginal utility of more money might not make me that much happier day to day, especially at the expense of losing some of the pro’s I described above, but not quite as much as the TC’s at some other companies like the FAANG’s/Big 4’s/unicorns. The open office floor plan can be a con depending on your personality type and detrimental to concentration.
