Pros
It's a 9-5 job. If you enjoy being in the same position as you were a year ago no matter how hard you try then this is the job for you. Also there is no way you'll be demoted or fired no matter how little you try either.
Cons
No raises, bonuses, or any benefit increase in the past 4 years for anybody who wasn't a manager. Getting a promotion meant doing more work for the same pay forever. Management would change titles and positions every couple of months but in the end it was always the same self-congratulating people with poor management skills. The work environment was extremely political and petty. The engineering managers were not experienced managers and not experienced programmers, so trying to get through to them with sound software engineering advice was like talking to a brick wall.
