Pros
Great freedom for the self-motivated to excel and collaborate with one another; light administrative burden, no departments.
Cons
Like most universities, RU functions as a collection of eighty quasi-independent fiefdoms. Management styles among faculty run the gamut, so your experience is less dictated by RU culture and more by individual lab culture. Mentoring can be extensive or almost nonexistent. Benefits are excellent but pay is barely adequate given its Manhattan location, though typical of other NY universities and nonprofits. Opportunities for advancement can be limited given its size. Usually the only way up is out.
