Pros
RightRez offers a competitive salary along with generous seasonal bonuses for qualified employees. There are fun gift card give-aways for knowing your travel trivia. Whenever out-of-state employees visit or there's a holiday, there are office pitch-ins, lunches, and invitations to the CEO and VP's home for get-togethers. RightRez is family-owned and operated by husband and wife. The location is ideal for those in the Bloomington, IN area. The out-of-state employees and most developers work remotely, with the occasional on-site travel requirements. While you will be offered a remote Thursday in your contract, it's also important to note that these will always be at the CEO's discretion. RightRez is recognized as an industry leader, and is well-respected in leisure travel circles. If you know the travel industry (air, cruise, and tour), your role will be more enjoyable and much easier to navigate. To be successful here, you should have strong critical thinking skills, have a solid understanding of the software life cycle, and most importantly, have the ability to deliver or withstand very difficult conversations. You will build a strong camaraderie with your teammates as you often rely heavily on one another, for work-related emotional support.
Cons
Like any small business, everyone at RightRez wears many hats, and structure reorganization is a constant. While employees are frequently told that everyone starts on the Support team, there is no defined or clear career path for next steps. Due to the difficult nature of learning both the travel industry and the software suite, hiring the much-needed manpower for the front-line supporting roles is often disregarded. Instead, unreasonable and often unrealistic goals are placed on the teams, resulting in a stressful and low-morale environment. While everyone at RightRez has an exceptional work ethic, the expectations of what the team should endure are ultimately the core of the company's internal issue. As a family-owned business, it is important to note that you will not have a standard Human Resources experience at RightRez. While the office has a casual feel overall, you will most assuredly have a conflict with or grievance against the CEO at some point, and you will not have the sense of security or confidentiality common in most of these situations. Management does their best to help employees work with the CEO, but candidates should know that complicity is the general tone. There is little to no accountability for unacceptable behavior that would otherwise be grounds for termination (or lawsuits) at larger corporations. RightRez's on-call schedule is also different from most companies'. In addition to being available for urgent, after-hour calls, members of the on-call rotation will be expected to do routine maintenance work as well. Between this work and an urgent call from a customer, on-call rotations can be disruptive and time-consuming. Management has made great strides to lighten the burden of on-call, though, and offers a discretionary half-day on Fridays before an on-call weekend. It also needs to be said that everyone on the team IS ALWAYS willing to help, even in the early morning hours! Finally, be sure to negotiate for more PTO! While you'll be offered a minimum of 22 PTO days, it will not be emphasized to you that RightRez doesn't observe holidays. If you wish to take off Christmas, you will be expected to use 1 day of your personal time. Also be sure to get clear information on parental or bereavement leave. These are not outlined in the employee policy guide, and should you find yourself in need, you won't want to be caught off guard!
