Pros
Once I learned how to sell to Ricki's standards the job felt quite rewarding. There was a time where you would earn even more discounts on clothing every time you sold a high price sale. (They took this away due to drop in sales across Canada). I ended up staying 3 years because I'd always make new friends that made the job fun.
Cons
When I left my job at Ricki's I felt satisfied. But now after having a few jobs after working here, I feel like the management is expected to treat their employees like pure garbage. You're expendable, there's no doubt about that. So they feel that they are able to be tough on you. Every week at my store you had to look at how well you did in sales and then the manager would tell you everything you did wrong that week (e.g. your average sale was not high enough). I've had a couple weeks where I was above the standard for everything they asked for. My manager still found words to put down my performance; all I got was a "good job but you need to do better." Additionally, management is not flexible whatsoever with holidays and it's quite ridiculous. My first year working there, I was the only one scheduled to work on Christmas Eve, even after I told my boss that I was going to be travelling for the ONE DAY of Christmas (you had to work Boxing day of course). There were so many other employees that were not travelling, but somehow they got that day off. My advice to anyone planning on staying there for a long time is to request time off early, and don't ask for time off, tell the managers that you will NOT work on the days that you don't want to. I learned in my 2nd and 3rd year to ask for Christmas off in September!!!! I did successfully get the week of Christmas off because I TOLD my boss I was not working.
