Pros
The atmosphere is very cooperative and you don't really have to worry about hierarchical issues. Everyone wants to make sure you get the most out of your position and I have found that professors are extremely helpful in giving you the exposure you desire.
Cons
Since a lot of research is collaborative, it is sometimes hard to ensure that everyone is kept in the loop so communication sometimes suffers which can lead to tension in the worst case scenario.
