Pros

Quite a few genuinely good people working in different positions who honestly try their best to support their teams. Fairly flexible with assignments to maintain a work/life balance. Interesting work environments with a great variety. Managers and foremen treat you great if you can keep them happy. Good place for an apprentice to start, learn what you can in a few years, then take that knowledge to a new company.

Cons

Leadership fails to provide accountability to written standards, especially for higher level employees. Personal relationships are more important than company policy and trade standards. Major disconnect between how the companies processes are presented and implemented. Company functions like it's composed of a dozen individual companies, and expects employees to "pick up" the "tribal knowledge" through osmosis. Safety is presented as the most important thing, but individual foremen are given liberty to interpret/dismiss trade standards in any way they see fit as long as the job gets done, and there's no immediate problem. Managers will turn a blind eye toward inappropriate/illegal conduct from senior employees, but hold junior employees to unrealistic expectations which were not communicated. "We cover for each other" is a phrase used often, which means exactly what it sounds like. The use of software tools to manage projects and maintain field communication/documentation is emphasized, but not implemented consistently. The companies core values sound great, but they are quickly set aside when money is on the line. Intentional, systematic development of junior employees does not occur; it's a "sink-or-swim" environment. Leadership development is talked about, and they make a big deal about it once in a while, but it's perfunctory, not genuine. Honesty and transparency are not valuable here, and will impact your ability to advance your career. Leadership often seems to be 2-3 decades behind the curve of the state of the industry, with work processes and materials selected based on out of date knowledge.

Pros

The role offers potential exposure to accounting processes and could be a good environment for someone who is already highly experienced and comfortable working independently.

Cons

My experience with accounting management was disappointing. There was a clear gap between what was communicated during the interview process and the actual onboarding experience. I was told there would be structured training and support, but in reality, that support was minimal. There was an expectation to come in with a high level of knowledge without being properly guided or developed. Additionally, the responsibilities I was given did not align with the role as described. I was primarily handling emails and bank-related tasks, rather than being trained on the core accounting functions of the position. This made it difficult to grow, contribute meaningfully, or fully understand expectations.
