Pros
- Exposure to a range of interesting projects across a range of sectors - Opportunities to work on New Business Projects (proposals and pitches) - Collaborate/work closely with very intelligent & educated young people - Friends at work - nature of the role means you get close to people quickly - Social elements - if you are new to London Friday drinks is always an option, free breakfast, run club and great cafes/delis nearby to grab lunch together - Encouraged to think beyond university thinking (Consider different political view points & formulate your own conclusion) - Chance to develop public speaking, learn to give and take professional feedback and regularly reflect on how processes can be improved - Pushed out of your comfort zone and given responsibility early in your career - Working on multiple projects helps you learn how to prioritise and pivot - Lots to talk about when you interview for your next job!
Cons
- Being a smaller agency means you are very exposed at work, it's difficult to keep your 'head down' - Long hours, occasionally expected to work late to deliver a deadline or carry out fieldwork - Fieldwork isn't glamorous - getting exposure to people's every day lives can be difficult, not everyone's story is pleasant to sit through - Whilst the projects are stimulating, thinking from different perspectives and trying not to bring your own opinions to work is hard - Working on multiple projects at any one time makes meeting deadlines hard. This can be stressful, especially if you help with new business proposals as well as research. - You are encouraged to present, give feedback on others and juggle things that feel outside of the job description - it can feel overwhelming and often there's no escape - Starting salary isn't great and being in the office 5 days a lot means you won't take home a lot at the end of the month
