Pros

Great team Women's service line director (Nancy) is awesome, advocates for her nurses and needed resources Good work life balance

Cons

Compensation could be better RNs float to other units often Nurses pay is capped after so many years and then they are just given a small bonus Healthcare benefits are expensive and there are not enough services available in network

Pros

I'm honestly surprised how pleasant it is to work here. I've had no problems with management, and my coworkers are great. Even the providers, hospitalists, and specialists are easy to work with. Scheduling is straight forward. It's mostly self schedule with timpani. We have 2 patients, and occasionally 3 in the ICU if there is a downgraded patient waiting for a bed. If you have a patient that is critical, or are sleding, you will be 1:1. Free parking, and there are always spaces. It takes 3 minutes to walk from parking to the ICU.

Cons

If floated, you're expected to take on the same number of patients as the floor nurses. It seems like almost every shift, an ICU nurse is being floated. They recently cut budget and now we draw our own blood work. If the census is low, they will send you home. They will also call you before work if the census is low, and put you on call, then call you in if the pt load picks up.

Pros

*Great co-workers that work hard and are team players *Great first-line supervisor that cares

Cons

*Poor pay for the Washington, DC metro area (not even in-line with other hospitals) *Outdated and inaccurate regional pay system that determines rates (hence poor pay) *Big corporate only cares about the bottom line at the expense of their employees *Turnover is not great due to the above factors; could be prevented if corporate executives were held accountable for poor decision making and actually cared about the people that drive the bottom line for them
