Pros
- Customers are often regulars that you get to know & grow bonds with their pets. - Almost all customer interactions are positive. - The team works well together & are supportive of each other. - Training modules cover a very wide range of topics & monthly modules keep all employees at a fairly even knowledge base level. - Get to help animal rescues with adoption events. - The monthly staff feeder is a great non monetary bonus.
Cons
- Management needs additional support from head office. - Lazy employees need to be dealt with directly, as it lowers team morale. - Can no longer choose extra modules to work on, only the minimal assigned ones. - Minimal financial bonuses & those avaliable have difficult targets for small stores. - No frequent buyer for staff, though the staff feeder does partially make up for it. - 20% is not usable with sales, and most sales the customers get are the same as the staff discount. - Big sales (4×/yr) require a ton of extra work from staff but not extra reward (can't stack discount on sale) - Pay does not equal workload, if you want this job to work for you, you must be passionate about it.
