Pros

The few things I did like were the fast-paced environment of doing 30-48 injections per day, the monthly value-based pay, the ease of learning fluoroscopy- and ultrasound-guided injections, and the general osteoarthritic patient population was a joy to serve.

Cons

The culture of this company is shrouded in deception, dishonesty, and corruption. It is uncommon to hear patients coming in complaining about their bills or the service. Therefore, I could not thrive in this company because of its values… The company preaches patient-centered values/care, but even the seasoned staff know the priorities are the numbers/profits. For newer staff, it does not take long to realize this. Take note, this is one of the main reasons staff turnover is so high here. This company cycles through new staff about every couple of months. Value-based pay is only per certain injections. There is no value-based pay for the number of diagnostic imaging you do (which, in comparison to the injection procedures, actually take up more of your time/energy). Also, no value-based pay for the more complex injections you do, which are radiofrequency ablations and platelet-rich-plasma injections. Ideally, you should be compensated more for doing them, but you will never reach the quota because it's ridiculously high. Daily radiation exposure. You should advocate for a higher base pay due to this. Inconsistent schedule: no guarantee of a 40-hour work week… only paid for time doing direct patient care. No dedicated hours for administrative/charting duties. You are expected to do that during your “downtime” if you even have any. Patient appointment times are extremely volatile, can be quick or an hours-long wait. This factor is very dependent on the sales pitch consult, doctor visit, and patient complexity. Lack of standard training/protocols: There is no booklet/guideline/manual on what your job expectations are. You are expected to train through a regular, hectic schedule of 30-48+ injection patients and 5-12+ consult patients. Also, the people who train/manage you tend to break their own rules, which makes it difficult to understand how this clinic is even supposed to be run. Lack of management accountability: ask one question and you will get three different answers from your three different managers. Accept the fact that you will never know what’s going on around here. Lack of flexibility: the company is so small, plus take into account the high provider turnover rate; there will be no one to cover you if you request time off or vacation. This practice hires non-credentialed providers; during my employment, the MA and the MD were not credentialed. Lack of credentials translated into some very inexperienced, irresponsible, immature coworkers. READ your contract carefully. Providers have to give a 4-month notice to leave. In conclusion, this company’s values do not align with mine. I’m so glad I stood up for myself and my patients, and that my prideful-ash-self got fired, my misery got cut by a LOOONG shot.
