Pros

I learned a couple lessons...pay attention to the red flags because they were there from day one so don't ignore the warning signs. I also learned that it's important to work with like minded people or it will be a constant battle.

Cons

Spoon fed egomaniacs with bully-like behaviors. A kid selling lemonade from a home made stand has a greater chance at success and probably demonstrates better busines sense than the two "owners" at this company. I would not even consider this a start up company, it's more like a college student science lab being run by a couple of frat boys.

Pros

They have free food every Wednesday and have a wide selection of snacks available in the kitchen. Overall, the people are nice and smart individuals. Majority of the staff seem passionate about their research and sincerely want to contribute to the company’s mission and goals.

Cons

One of the most significant challenges was the apparent inexperience of the leadership team. It was clear that some key decision-makers lacked the necessary industry knowledge and expertise to navigate the complexities of the biotech industry effectively. Management played favorites and bonuses/raises/promotions were inconsistent and unfair. The company's financial instability was a major concern and unfortunately, it resulted in a series of layoffs. Leadership was also not as transparent as they could have been regarding our ongoing financial struggles. All-hands meetings gave a façade that everything was fine when it truly was not. There were a lot of questionable hires that did not make sense based on our pre-clinical phase. Furthermore, I was concerned about the laboratory standards that, at times, seemed non-existent. Management did not display an understanding of data integrity and this casted doubts on the reliability of our results. Proper PPE was often overlooked, putting the safety of employees at risk, which is simply unacceptable in a scientific setting.
