Pros
When I went looking for a job, I liked that they had looked at my mature experience in other industries as a positive to help support the younger employees rather than a negative. They went for my character and work values and decided that they could train me on the skills. The dept I worked for doubled their sales over twelve months. I learned that the workplace hasn't changed that much in the last twenty years. There are still the legalists, the gossipers and the overzealous. The company works hard through corporate meetings to dispel negative behaviors and as they are sincere people, it has a good effect. The health benefits are excellent for those over 26 living in CA. The formal training was professional and demonstrated that they cared about their customers and the knowledge base they should expect from anyone that comes into contact to represent their business. This is a good company to use as a "jumping off" platform for any person that needs to transfer their skills due to downsizing or a new college graduate.
Cons
There's minimal cons. This isn't a company that rewards individual achievement so if you think that you will be appreciated or need that type of recognition, you won't get it often. I don't like that kind of thing unless it is a financial reward! It's a family owned business-remember that and look into the pros and cons of working for one. If you don't like that type of business model, then you shouldn't work for this company. You may think that it doesn't have that much affect on your work, but one day it will. Don't get upset or angry if you knew it was going to happen. The pay grades are very conservative. If you are under 26 years old and live in CA and can still be covered under your parents insurance, there's no flex plan to divert the funds for your coverage into another area, or just get it as a pay out to your salary. There are long time employees that have camped themselves there and can be challenging to work with.
