Pros

- Great team of passionate devs - A few extra days off offered by the company (won't stay this way much longer) - They offer an online medecine platform (offered elsewhere too)

Cons

- The Management is a mess. They are incompetent and do not know what they're doing at all. Unknown 9: Awakening was a project filled with potential that was marred with constant terrible decisions made by the higher ups that screwed up the final product thoroughly. - The Creative Director was picked by default due to time at the company. They have no vision, are disconnected from the audience, and their only experience comes from Ubisoft's mediocre approach to AAA. They barely even play games and fire/sabotage anyone who dares criticizing their ideas. - There is inflated egos that won't let the studio flourish creatively. It's a Boys's club of old men playing politics and reigning with an iron fist. - The level of trust for the studio manager who has no experience in the game development industry is quite low. They are a person of high charisma that won't answer things directly and often deflects by playing with words in a manner that is reminiscent of politicians. - Constant gaslighting: the same people will try to gaslight anyone into thinking they're the problem, when they don't have the common decency of speaking to people of lower levels with minimal respect. - There is definitely a stealthy bias against minorities (people of color, women, etc.) I have never seen such hidden yet obvious discrimination anywhere. Between seeing old white francophone men talk rudely and lashing out at a certain demographic and play down every women's issues on their day-to-day as incompetence, being overly emotional, is just ridiculous. I've been fortunate enough to only witness it occur to my coworkers/friends and not live through it myself. People are afraid to speak up because the HR department has turned into a bunch of corporate shills and aren't looking out for us. - Reflector used to be a company that cared about its employees. The HR team was great and looked out for the little people. It has since changed and the result is that HR is now filled with corporate shills that will smile as they spit in your face. - Removal of benefits: Many of our benefits were reduced or removed entirely, while being told that we should feel lucky that they are looking out for us. - Mandatory return to the office twice a week even for people who were hired as remote workers. - The former Game Design Lead, who has since left for Ubisoft, used to hijack directors meetings, & consistently made a lot of racist & sexist remarks. It took over a year to get him demoted after multiple people of multiple departments came forward about his neverending swearing, inappropriate behavior, lack of professionalism, and more. There were also indirect threats to job security to people who were not compliant with his often ridiculous orders. - The animation director who was promoted from their lead role made a scene during a meeting over a decision they took with another department over 2 years and a half after it had been done. Accusing people of working behind their back when they had been part of the decisional process. Since their arrival, many animators went on sick leave or outright left the company because of their constant need for conflicts.

Pros

Reflector is a good place to work. People are humans and professionals. The salary is "good" Advantages are good (reer, vacation, etc.) Projects are good

Cons

Projects are often driven purely by creativity, with a tendency to exclude technical experts from early discussions out of fear they might impose limitations. However, good creatives should embrace working within a technical framework rather than defining it in isolation. Too often, technical teams are brought in only to solve problems caused by earlier decisions, instead of being involved from the start to help build something stronger, smarter, and more efficient.

Thank you for your honest and constructive review. I'm pleased to read of your favourable outlook regarding Reflector's work environment, its team, and its advantages during your time at the studio. As for studio processes, I agree that a team's creative and technical experts must establish tight collaboration from a project's outset. You'll be happy to hear that cross-functional synergy is improving daily, and we will continue to foster collaboration across creative and technical teams as our current project advances. It means a lot that you continue to believe in Reflector's potential. I can assure you that we are on the right track! Wishing you all the best.

Pros

Lot of PTO and vacations (Reflector Days)

Cons

Mind you I stopped working there 2 years ago, but while I was there, there were sooo many senior and completely detached employees with big egos, low insight and research workflows, which led to a fractured company, failing product and culture, and lots of unhappy people. Hope it changed since then, I would definitely ask something related to these topics if you ever interview there to make sure it's going better now.

Lena David Partenaire d'affaires, RH
