Pros

- You get to work on a lot of different projects

Cons

- Stressful client relationships (most customers are at least somewhat unhappy with our work) - Everything has to be done as fast as possible (measured in hours instead of days). For example we got in trouble for switching sitting assignments around because of the time it wasted. - Deceptive interviewing process (the job wasn’t what I expected). One small example is asking during the interview process about sit-stand desks. I was told I could have one. When I started, they could me I could buy one with my own money and bring it in myself. - Pay is poor (the founder doesn’t agree with market rates) - PTO is poor (12 days PTO and 8 holidays) - Employer doesn’t respect two-week notice (they may just say your last day is the day you let them know) - No career growth plan or path (employment review is a 30-minute walk with the founder that resulted in no action) - Very little collaboration with everyone working on different projects. For example, the team I was on had more projects than members of the team. - They said they cared about people until it was inconvenient. For example, one coworker had cancer and his treatments prevented him from being as available as expected. They didn’t want to lose him, but they didn’t like paying him during cancer treatments. They decided the best approach was to transition him to a contractor to avoid paying him during difficult times. In general, this is probably the worst employer I’ve ever worked for. My wife has noticed significant improvements to my mental health since quitting.

Red Pepper Software Response

Thank you for this candid feedback! We are sad that you had such a bad experience with us. It is true that working in software consulting is not for everyone, and we are sorry it did not work out for you. We now have purchased multiple stand-up desks and most developers can have access to such accommodations. We find our compensation packages to be competitive in the marketplace and offer a range of benefits. We are constantly working to improve our employee collaboration, client communication, and other aspects of running a business. We cannot always predict how a business relationship is going to go, but we have found that when we communicate effectively with clients to understand their needs well that projects go well. We have not to this point had an employee undergo cancer treatments while working for us, nor would we publish such information if we had with respect to HIPAA regulations. Thank you for helping us to improve!

Pros

Great environment. Very friendly people. Company lunches and educational opportunities. Great career expansion opportunities. Friendly to internships. Monthly health challenge with prizes. Lots of diversity of projects as a software developer. Hard to get super bored. Great if you like using bleeding edge technologies, data analytics software, building production systems with latest AI models and techniques, and occasionally porting some ancient code to a modern system.

Cons

The location has a lot of traffic sometimes. Rush hour gets crazy. HVAC system goes crazy sometimes but we have small fans and/or heaters.

Pros

Red Pepper is easily one of the best places I’ve worked. The execs genuinely care about the people and the business, and that really shows in the culture. Everyone has a voice and a chance to make an impact. Being a smaller company means you can actually see how your work helps the business grow. The team is full of talented people who are great at what they do. It’s fun being part of a company known for delivering strong results—for Qualtrics and for our end clients.

Cons

I don't see it as a con (in fact, I think it contributes to the comradery and efficiency with which we serve our customers) - but others should know Red Pepper isn't a hybrid work environment.
