Pros

As an ex employee who gave 10 years of his life to the ranch… there is nothing positive about working there that can outweigh the toxic culture and lack of support for staff The starting pay may seem enticing but that’s because if they didn’t offer a higher starting wage they would not be able to bring in new staff Any 5 star ratings were most likely made by upper management as attempts to recruit because most reviews looks so terrible for them. Don’t buy it. If it looks fishy, it is

Cons

The ranch will break your spirit and make you question your values everyday They cannot retain staff because of the way management treats people You will be told your replaceable if you speak out about what goes on and what you see The agency has started making attempts to bring in staff by making a tik tok account stating all the benefits… not only are the people in the videos some of the worst members of upper management, this is how desperate they are to bring in employees. There is a reason there are ALWAYS job postings for the ranch They refuse to unionize because they know they would not be able to shut people up or threaten them with NDAs The participants are treated like animals. Especially the special needs clients who can’t speak for themselves You will not find a former ranch client who did not experience some sort of abuse at the ranch by staff Social services is aware of the horrors that go on at ranch, but often the ranch is the only place available to send people and they have no other choice If you really want to hear the truth talk to a former employee you know No one who has experienced the ranch recommends it to anyone you care about

Ranch Ehrlo Society Response

Thank you for sharing your experience and for the many years you spent with our organization. We know this work is demanding, and we take concerns about culture, leadership and staff support seriously. Creating a safe and respectful environment for both employees and participants matters to us. Some of the statements shared don’t reflect our standards or how we operate. We have clear policies and oversight in place, and any concerns are taken seriously and reviewed. We also support staff in speaking up and do not tolerate retaliation. We continue to put more focus on supporting staff. This includes offering psychological safety training and recently increasing paramedical coverage for mental health practitioners through to $1,500 per year. We’re also working to better promote our Total Rewards package so employees fully understand the supports available to them (thanks for noticing our TikToks!). With more than 1,000 employees, ongoing recruitment is part of operating at our size. Many people build long careers here—we regularly celebrate 20-, 25- and 30-year milestones. Others come to gain experience and move into different roles, and that’s part of the sector. What doesn’t change is our focus on participants. Our programs, including supportive living, are person-centred, with each individual’s needs at the forefront.

Pros

The current senior leadership team seems to have lost their way. Financial controls and ‘pet projects’ of some are taking precedence over what should be priorities—caring for participants and staff. Executives who don’t understand the work, are less educated and experienced than those who work for them. More and more silencing of those who advocate for staff and kids. Many assaults, compassion fatigue common. The kids and direct care staff deserve more.

Cons

A reminder: the Ranch is not a government department. The heart has been sucked right out of the place by the current ceo.
