Pros

*NOTE: This varies based on program/work location as a "corporate" employee, not an FSE. *New an interesting coding projects to tear into with "almost" complete impunity. Motivated and energetic co-workers who are more than willing to help their fellow developer/devops/sysad when necessary.

Cons

*NOTE: This varies based on program/work location as a "corporate" employee, not an FSE. *Program budget/scope compared to others can often lead to unexpected/undesired moving around within the company. Such a move may lead to new working environment/co-workers who may/may not clique with you. Smaller programs are more prone to this issue. *Development CI/CD practices vary wildly between programs. Working on joint projects can prove to be cumbersome in many cases. *FOSS standards take a VERY long time to approve review with little to no chance to contest established standards of what is considered good practice (eg: the concept of restrictions on Static versus Public are different in older languages like C++ than they are in more modern languages like Java/C#/etc.)

Pros

I worked at Raytheon for over 4 years and had a great experience. The company provided many learning and growth opportunities. I was promoted twice during my tenure with the company, and my responsibility increased significantly. I felt like my management supported me and provided me with the career mentorship that I was seeking. I felt empowered and respected during my time there.

Cons

It can be difficult to work at such a large defense contractor company because of all the process and red tape. Things can move slowly, you have to be patient and pick your battles. That being said, if you learn how to work within the system, you can make a significant impact here!
