Pros

working with the animals Course Training Sick Pay and other benefits

Cons

Micromanaged by people with less experience, it is a company built on apprenticeships and straight out of University or college. They've never encountered any other form of rescue or animal centres, animal based jobs; they lack practical knowledge and do not like experienced workers coming in, leading to a power-driven approach, and they don’t want to take advice from experienced staff. More often, they put you in your place and don’t share ongoing outcomes with the team. hired experience staff and then restrict them instead of using it as a strength and a learning growth. no progression or role change Clicky Close-minded stuff

Pros

I had a great supervisor, Sally, who ran a tight ship but was also a friendly and helpful mentor and didn't get angry when I made mistakes as I was starting out. I got some experience stocking the shelves, interacting with a variety of customers, and learning the value of merchandise. There's also some opportunities to get cool books, etc. for low prices, especially if no one else wants them.

Cons

I worked as a volunteer, since it's a charity shop, so obviously I didn't get paid. In addition, customers will sometimes have strong body odor, and like any customer service job, you just have to grin and bear it.
