Pros
Programme Managers in the team as well as the Head of were very supportive and proactive when it came to preventing burnout because of a high workload. Was difficult since there was an ambitious project delivery target. If only other managers in the org could be like them. Projects were interesting to work on. Stressful, but it was stimulating work. Other PMs in the team were nice and great to work with Salary was pretty good. Additional benefits were nice too.
Cons
There are way too many wannabe politicians pretending to be middle managers. Politics often got in the way of delivery which is frustrating as it reflects badly against you as the PM. Other resource managers were just ‘there’ and weren’t much help. I thought this would improve after the restructure, however the CIO and associates chose to keep managers based on their location rather than value add to the department. Likely down to the optics of being a ‘truly global’ team. Too many projects to deliver with the limited number of technical resources available, making delays inevitable. Also burns out said limited number of technical resources we have, which isn’t sustainable. Out of hours work to manage go-lives depending on the project. A diverse org at the lower level, but not at the top. The CEO and entire ExCo (and most SVPs) look the same, speak the same, think the same etc. diversity of thought is a huge asset and the lack of this has probably contributed to the lack of innovation/creativity mentioned in other reviews.
